WINTRY ISSUES: The parade of storm systems continues today with a system that will bring a plethora of precipitation. This will be in the form of rain, sleet, freezing rain and snow and/or a combination of two, three or all four. The best chances of any precipitation looks to be east of a Forest City to Fort Dodge to Omaha line. Rain will be the main story across the southern counties as temperatures will stay above freezing tonight into Thursday morning. Over areas north of Interstate 80, however the rain will likely be mixed with or changed over to snow, sleet or perhaps a little freezing rain. HPC has decent probabilities of some ice across the eastern and northeastern counties into Thursday morning with this system, although temperatures Thursday will be at or above freezing during the day.

NEXT ON THE STORM PARADE!: We don’t have to wait too long for the next system on the winter parade of storms, another storm will move in from the southwest late Saturday night into Sunday. Warm air will surge ahead of the storm so most areas will get rainfall on Sunday. The exception could be the far northern and northwestern counties of the state which may see a wintry mix or some snow. The precipitation will changeover to snow late Sunday night as the storm sweeps quickly across the area. As of now, accumulating snow looks to be rather light if any. We’ll be able to pinpoint better as we draw closer to the weekend.

ARCTIC AIR PARADE: The hits just keep on coming and into the middle of the month, more cold air from the north will make another appearance in the Winter Parade 2012-2013. This could bring with it more snow to the state (most likely the light fluffy kind). Again this could change in future model runs, but the trend is out there for much colder weather heading into the latter half of February.
