WINTRY ISSUES AHEAD: Outside of a slight snow chance over the northeastern counties of the state today, the next best chance of precipitation occurs Wednesday night into Thursday morning across the state. Temperatures are going to be a factor as warmer air will be filtering into the state keeping temperatures in the 20s and 30s Wednesday night over the state. The precipitation will be in the form of some snow in the north and northeastern counties, a wintry mix across the I-80 corridor and 30-40 miles either side, with rain to the south. This will mainly be along and east of Interstate 35. Precipitation amounts in liquid equivalent look to range between a tenth and quarter inch at this time with perhaps some heavier totals. Highs today will be in the 30s north and east to 40s south and west. Wednesday will have upper 20s to 30s north and east to 40s to near 50 south and west.

WEEKEND EVENT: The GFS has been hinting at a system that may graze the state late this coming weekend into Monday and the precipitation chances are still there but are lighter and more scattered across the state. The precipitation type this go around looks to be snow or a wintry mix in the far southern counties into Missouri at this time. We still have time to watch it for any changes that could bring more, less or no precipitation to the state. Stay tuned.

MORE COLD AIR: GFS is still showing some cold air at mid month across the northern tier of the country including Iowa. This would bring more snow, in clipper fashion, similar to what we went through the last couple of days and readings at least 10-15 degrees below seasonal averages. Don’t see any big time systems at this time that will drop a lot of snow, but every little bit will add up over time.
