TWO WARM DAYS: It will be very atypical of January today and Tuesday for most of the state with highs in the 40s and even a few lower 50s. It will be mainly cloudy with spits of drizzle and rainfall especially tonight into Tuesday. The far northern and northwestern counties may be stuck in the 30s both days, but that is still above average for this time of year. There is a slight chance of some icing issues up there, but nothing like yesterday.

RUMBLING THROUGH: Tonight will bring rain back through a good portion of the state. There is a chance some of the rain may bring some rumbles of thunder along with it, especially east of a Lamoni to Waterloo line. Severe weather is not expected.

BACK TO BELOW ZERO: Even after a possible thunderstorm that could rumble through tonight into Tuesday morning, we’ll be back near or below zero by Thursday and or Friday morning across a good deal of the state as a cold front will bring the cold air back from Canada. Highs will struggle into the lower and middle teens Thursday and Friday with a slow moderation into the 20s to near 30 this weekend. It looks to be mostly dry for the latter half of the week into the weekend. After that, there is too much inconsistency with the models to give out a broad forecast at this time beyond 7 days.
