WARMTH CONTINUES: Another warm day across the state with mid 30s through the 40s across the state for highs. Many areas in southern Iowa have lost most if not all of their snow pack at this time. Rain will move in Thursday and last through the day into early Friday, amounts will range between a quarter and a half inch, with some isolated heavier totals possible.

COLD AIR COMETH: What does come, must go and the warm weather will depart this weekend for polar air that will rush in from the north and northwest. This will bring high temperatures back into the teens and 20s and lows back into the single digits above and below zero. A lack of snow cover in many areas will keep some places from really seeing the temperature drop but it’ll be cold where ever you are. Any precipitation that falls on Saturday will be light and mainly in the northwestern half of the state. Most of the snow with the second part of this system will move through the Dakotas and Minnesota.

MODERATION: The cold weather will last through most of next week before a slow warm up begins by late next week with some seasonal weather thereafter. No real big trends seen in the 8-14 day time frame except the warm up at this time.
