SNOW ENTERING: Increasing cloudiness today with a new storm that will bring more snow to the state late today into Friday. Some of the accumulations could be significant with 1 to perhaps as much as 5 inches of snow mainly north of Interstate 80. HPC, however shows 1-3″ of snow across the north central and northwestern counties where a Winter Weather Advisory has been issued. Will have to see how this pans out. The snow may cause some travel issues but with little wind expected, there will be minimal blowing and drifting snow with this system.
COLD START: Temperatures will decline a bit heading toward New Year’s but nothing out of the ordinary for this time of year. Highs in the teens and 20s and lows in the single digits are not uncommon for late December or the month of January for that matter. The GFS is showing temperatures may be even colder than this, but we’ll have to wait and see. It looks to remain dry for a while after the system departs late Friday through next week and into the New Year.
CLEAR AS MUD: There isn’t really any new trends regarding what is going to take place in the first 10 days of the new year. It looks to get a bit warmer but it may also become more active toward the middle of the month. We have seen that on a run a few days ago but it disappeared. No real confidence at this time past the 7 day period.
