ABOVE AVERAGE: A cold front has moved through the state, but the temperatures are still going to remain above average for a few more days with 40s and 50s for highs through at least Thursday when another front moves in with more seasonal like air for the state. Sunshine will be plentiful today with a few more clouds and a bit windier on Wednesday ahead of the next quick moving front Thursday afternoon and evening.

PRECIP ENDING: The week will end with some slight chances of some precipitation across the state. The amounts are going to be light and likely all in the form of rain at this time. The next system we’ll have to watch out for is early next week which may bring the first significant snow to the state. It seems funny after seeing record high temperatures in the 60s and 70s yesterday to be talking about snow, but this is December and we’re only 3 weeks from Christmas, so it was bound to happen sooner rather than later. At this time, it’s too early to determine the amount of snow that may fall with the system late Monday through the day Next Tuesday but if this model run is correct, it could be a few inches at least.

PAYING ON THE WARMTH: You knew that with the warm weather we’ve been having to start the month of December that we were going to be paying for it sooner or later and it looks like the middle of the month we’re going to be turning the tide on the cold arctic air that has been bottled up in Alaska and northwestern Canada the last week. If the trend we’ve been seeing lately continues we could see reading 15-20 degrees below average in about two weeks time. if that’s right, that would mean highs in the mid teens to mid 20s and lows in the single digits above and below zero. This could be colder or warmer depending on whether we have any snow pack on the ground at that time.
