IN ST LOUIS: In the Gateway city overnight as I type this where temperatures here have warmed up into the 50s to near 60 for highs. The same goes for Iowa as well yesterday and continuing into today. Temperatures will be in the upper 50s to near 70 degrees across the state today and tomorrow before the storm moves in with some shower and thunderstorm activity.
WEEKEND EVENT: The main window for precipitation looks to be between 6pm Saturday evening and 6am Monday morning across the state. Some of the showers and storms could be strong to perhaps severe with the main threats being from large hail and damaging straight line winds. The Storm Prediction Center has a slight risk of severe weather for Saturday afternoon and evening across the western and southwestern counties of the state. Any changes will be posted as needed as I travel on Friday. Precipitation amounts still look to be around an inch in most places with some isolated heavier totals in some areas. There is a slight but growing chance that some of the much colder air will filter into the state as the precipitation is ending. This could mean some of the rain could mix with and change to some wet snow or sleet late Sunday night or early Monday morning. We’ll keep tabs on that to see if this changes for better or worse.
NEXT STORM: Highs back into the 30s and 40s for highs rebound nicely back to near seasonal levels at midweek ahead of another storm system next Friday into the following weekend. Right now it looks as if most of the precipitation with this system will be in the form of rain. We’ll watch that as well.
TURKEY AND DEALS: Thanksgiving and Black Friday according to the 00z GFS Model Run look a bit disturbed but nothing to write home about. Temperatures will be modest for late November but Friday morning could be chilly with possible teens and 20s at that time. We’ve seen everything out in this time frame so there’s no definite trend as yet.
