CHILLY DAY: A rather brisk and breezy day in store today with readings holding in the upper 50s to middle 60s statewide with gusty northwesterly winds especially in the eastern half of the state. This will effect some tailgating at the Iowa Central Michigan Game at Kinnick Stadium, but some sunshine should keep fans and tailgaters warm despite the winds. Sunday will be better after a fairly cold frosty start. Frost and Freeze Advisories and warnings may be required later today for a large part of the state. We may likely see the end to the growing season in a large section of the state tonight into Sunday morning.

BIG OCTOBER GALE?: The GFS is showing a large storm system coming from the northwest on the 3rd into the 4th of October. With this we could see strong northwesterly winds behind this system and some precipitation. The GFS is showing possible wintry precipitation in Minnesota, but I don’t think it’ll make it into Iowa at least at this time. We’ll see if this system continues to be seen in future model runs and at the same strength nonetheless. Otherwise prior to this system, the rest of September into the first two days of October look rather tranquil with a few shower chances here and there and readings staying mainly near seasonal levels. We’ll watch for any changes.
