COOLING OFF: Rain will linger in the state today especially in the eastern counties. This will keep temperatures down possibly in the 60s in those areas while western Iowa could see some late day sunshine and readings boosted into the mid to high 70s. A cool night is in store for the state tonight with readings dropping into the 40s to near 50. HS Football games will likely see readings in the 60s throughout with possibly some mid to upper 50s once the games end.
WEEKEND: The weekend is going to be great, with plentiful sunshine and cool temperatures in the 70s to near 80 and low humidity. You can open the windows and let the fresh air in, unless you have allergies in which you won’t want to do that as allergy levels are quite high right now. Lows will be in the 40s and 50s as well.
INTO A WARM UP: Readings won’t stay cool long, by the middle of next week we’ll be back into the 80s and possibly approaching 90° once more with humidity returning as well. A cold front will move into the state Wednesday into Thursday with some showers and thunderstorms. Some beneficial rainfall is possible but it’s too early to tell amounts at this time.
COLD SNAPS?: The GFS has been hinting off and on for the potential of a few fairly strong cold fronts dropping south into the area. This run doesn’t show them, but some previous runs have. We’ll continue to watch to see if these become a trend for a much colder end to the month of September.
