MORE RAIN: There is still some more chances of showers and thunderstorms today into early tomorrow across the state. There is a slight risk of severe weather for today and tonight across a good portion of northern and central Iowa. The main threats will be from large hail and damaging straight line winds. However I wouldn’t be surprised if we don’t see any severe weather at this time, but you never know at this point. Most of the rain activity will be out of the state by mid to late morning Wednesday with cooler and somewhat drier weather (sans Friday) in store for the rest of the week. Temperatures will drop from the 80s and lower 90s today to the 70s to lower 80s at the end of the week. Regarding Friday, a disturbance will move around the low that will be over James Bay in Canada and could bring some shower activity to the state then, but rainfall looks to be light from that event, we’ll keep an eye on that in coming days.

TAILGATE: There should be no issues regarding tailgating in Iowa City or Cedar Falls for this weekend college football games. There could be some early showers but they should clear out before kickoff. A more pinpoint forecast will be forthcoming on Friday’s IWR.

COOLING DOWN: The GFS is showing a drastic turn toward Fall weather toward the middle of the month with a cold front bringing down some much cooler temperatures from Canada at that time. If this is right we could see highs possibly in the 60s and 70s for highs and lows in the 40s and lower 50s but this is still way out there and could change on the very next run, but it does show that cooler weather is not that far off.
