ACTIVE LABOR DAY: The holiday weekend is going to come to an end with some possible active weather across the state. There is a slight risk of severe weather for mainly this afternoon into this evening for a large section of the state. The main threats would be from isolated large hail and damaging winds. Most of the activity looks to take place during the afternoon and evening hours at this time. Rainfall will be varied depending on where storms form and move. A half inch will be common across the state with some areas getting as much as an inch or more through at least Wednesday with several rounds of showers and thunderstorms coming through the state.

QUIETER COOLER: After the system departs Wednesday will be left with a cooler and more calm weather pattern to finish the week out with seasonal readings in the 70s to lower 80s lows in the 50s to near 60 and sunshine abound. There could be an isolated shower in far southern Iowa Friday put most of that should stay in Missouri. The weekend right now looks okay for football in Iowa City at this time.
