SMALL BREAK: The rain or in many cases the lack thereof from what was once Hurricane Isaac is moving away today leaving the state with mostly sunny skies and readings in the 80s to lower 90s. A few clouds could linger in the far eastern counties through at least the morning hours but satellite images last night were showing most of the clouds were already exiting the state at that time. The break will be short lived with a system moving in from the west bringing with it some showers and thunderstorms to the state as early as very late tonight in far northwestern Iowa but mainly Monday through Wednesday across the state. Rainfall from this system may vary greatly with a quarter to perhaps an inch of rain possible depending on the amount of storms one location gets over the three day period.

SEVERAL BATCHES: The GFS is continuing to show several cracks at some shower and thunderstorm activity across the state and region over the next two weeks with several short lived bouts of cooler drier air coming in from Canada behind it. This will help in retaining some soil moisture that has been lost due to the drought that is still ongoing in the state but will be too late for this crop season. There is no signs at this time of any REALLY cold air that could bring the state the first bit of frost (remember the average first frost is only 4 weeks away in NW Iowa!)
