RAIN MOVIN ON: After some places getting a lot of rain, in some cases over 2-4″ the rain activity will be moving out to the east today and skies will begin to clear from west to east. Rain will likely stick around in the far eastern counties through most of the day thus temperatures there will likely remain in the 70s with western counties getting into the 80s with enough sunshine.

NEXT WEEK: Right now next week looks to be dry and warm except there’s this storm called Isaac that has been playing tricks with every model run that comes out. It has made forecasters all along the Gulf Coast pull their hair out with the continued jogs west and east over the last few days. Saturday was no exception and the latest run is showing a farther westward movement with the system. Many models are now showing the storm making landfall very close to the mouth of the Mississippi River south and southeast of New Orleans. The 00z GFS has the storm continuing moving NW and then north through eastern Oklahoma and then into Central Missouri before turning east through central Illinois and Indiana. The run shows some possible rainfall from the system in far southeast Iowa Friday night into Saturday next week. It is VERY early to take this model run as fact, but this isn’t the first time we’ve seen this. A few days ago a few GFS Ensemble models did show some impacts from the remnant of Isaac possibly affecting the state to some degree. We will continue to look at this storm carefully, even if it doesn’t effect the state directly, the weather will continue to stay dry and warm at least through the beginning of the Labor Day weekend. ANY CHANGES WILL BE POSTED, especially if it pertains to any effects on Iowa and the region!

LABOR DAY WEEKEND: Throwing our arms up on this one, with the possibly of Isaac skimming some rain in SE Iowa to begin the weekend, the GFS shows cooler conditions with the departing storm and calmer weather but continued dry until the the middle of the following week at least.
