STORMY SATURDAY: There is a slight risk of severe weather mainly this afternoon into this evening for areas east of a Waukon to Lamoni line. The main threat will be from damaging straight line winds with a minor threat of large hail. There is some discrepancy as to whether the front will move through earlier than forecast. If this was to happen, most of the thunderstorm activity will likely develop along and east of the Mississippi River leaving the state mainly high and dry once more. We’ll see what plays out, stay tuned.
DRY, WHAT ELSE IS NEW: The remainder of the weekend and into the first part of next week will be dry and cooler to begin, with a slow warm up back into the 90s by Thursday in time for the state fair to open in Des Moines. GFS is wanting to bring in some showers and storms in the western counties at mid-week. This is possible although not looking very likely at this point. We’ll monitor for any changes to this in future videos.
MORE OF THE SAME: Looking dry and warm through the middle of the month toward the 20th (end of the model run) at this time. A few shower and storm chances are embedded in this time frame but they look to be spotty at best with no real organization at this time.
RACE NIGHT: The US Cellular 250 NASCAR Nationwide Race is tonight in Newton. The race should go off without any issues as the storms will be well to the east if not in Illinois by race time. Temperatures around 7pm will be around 80.
