HEAT ENDING: Only two more days of extreme heat to go before a noticeable cool off begins on Thursday. There is a slight chance of some showers and thunderstorms over the next 3 days across the northern third of the state today and Wednesday and statewide Wednesday night into Thursday morning. Some of the storms could be strong to severe if they develop. There has been some severe weather risks issued in the northern and northeastern counties over the next few days, any changes will be mentioned in an update later today. Rainfall will be spotty as it has been all summer long. Amounts may run up to three quarters of an inch in some areas through Thursday morning.

SEASONAL FOR ONCE: Seasonal weather returns Thursday and looks to stick around for a while, at least through the weekend, so a reprieve for those riding RAGBRAI will get relief from the scorching heat, it’ll just be Thursday before it arrives. Readings in the 80s to near 90 for highs through Sunday will feel more like a cold snap then seasonal, but it’s been that kind of summer around here. More rain is possible again Sunday with a disturbance moving through the state from the west.
