STORMY AND DROUGHT: The drought as was expected worsened across the state with over 60% of the state in moderate or severe drought. Some rain is expected today across the state but with it could come severe weather. The Storm Prediction Center has a slight risk of severe weather for today and tonight across a portion of central into western Iowa. Large hail and damaging winds will be the main threats. The rainfall from these storms will be light to moderate with possibly up to a half inch in thunderstorms that move over, although very few places will get this much if at all.

HEATING UP AGAIN: Temperatures later this weekend into next week will warm once again into the 90s, with heat indices approaching 100 again. This will last through mid-week before a cold front moves in and cools temperatures down but won’t bring much more rain to the state at that time. The front will stall south of the state and come back north as a warm front a week from today and this may bring some better rain chances at that time.

RAGBRAI: GFS is still showing some heat for the beginning of the bicycle ride, but not a strong as a few weeks ago, or possibly this weekend into next week, but this could change on future runs. Rain doesn’t look to be a problem at this time either.
