TOO HOT: It got over 100 today in Des Moines for the first time since 2006. It also hit the century mark in Perry, Ankeny, Clarinda and Shenandoah. More heat is expected tomorrow with southern and southeastern Iowa getting the chance to hit the 100° mark. Heat Advisories will continue tomorrow for a large section of Iowa, namely the southeastern half or so.
STORMS?: There seems to be some thought to some thunderstorm chances beginning tomorrow night across the area. This will be conditional and dependent on capping layer strength. HPC is showing decent rains with repeated activity that is possible Thursday night into Friday morning, Friday night into Saturday morning and perhaps even Saturday night into Sunday morning. All of this as said before is conditional on several parameters. However, if storms were to fire, severe weather is possible with damaging winds being the main threat. If an outlook is posted for tomorrow, we will post details on that later tonight or early tomorrow morning.
JULY 4TH: Even though the GFS has been bullish lately on the threat of rain over the next few days across our area, it also has been keeping some chance of some rain showers around for the Independence Day holiday as well. The chances aren’t that great, but there could be an isolated shot at some during the afternoon and evening, although it’s not looking too likely at this point. Readings will be warm with 80s and 90s across the state, typical of the holiday. Farther out, nothing can be discerned at this time regarding weather past this point with any relative ease.
