Moderate Risk expanded to NW Iowa

We hope you are liking those wonderful 90’s and 70’s dew points….it’s really hot, with records broken in some areas! Well, as usual, the threat of severe weather exists tonight, and in fact, a enhanced risk exists in NW Iowa.

HPC Fronts & Radar from 1:30PM

The Storm Prediction Center in Norman, Oklahoma has posted a MODERATE risk of severe thunderstorms for SW Minnesota, NW Iowa, East Nebraska, and portions of Kansas. A Slight Risk has been added for surrounding areas. Storms are expected to develop later this afternoon into the early evening, thanks to a strong cap formed,  mainly in Southern MN or near the Cold Front in Nebraska (see graphic).

Everything is possible with these storms. That’s right, any and all severe weather modes will be possible and possibly even likely.

Large Hail, up to the size of baseballs, Damaging Winds in excess of 70 MPH, Dangerous Lightning, Flash Flooding (hence the Flash Flood Watch), and an isolated tornado are all possible with these storms.

We will continue to monitor for later developments and keep you posted. A Live Chat is good to go for tonight, however it will not be posted until a watch is issued (or a possible watch) or significant number of severe events is seen. A Severe Weather Briefing video will be added within an hour.
