A lightning strike has temporarily disrupted Des Moines WSR-88D (KDMX) radar imagery and our telephone system. This will affect the Waterloo and Des Moines ring-thru forecast lines which will not be able to be repaired until Wednesday at the earlierst.  The forecast is available on these lines, however the functionality to ring-thru to speak to a forecaster is out of service.  Attempts to repair the radar Saturday afternoon failed with additional damage found. Additional parts have been ordered with another attempt to repair the damage planned for Sunday.  The radar is not expected to be returned to service until Sunday afternoon at the earliest, but it may not return to service until Tuesday depending on whether additional damage is found with further troubleshooting.  We apologize for this inconvenience.
