QUICK COOLING: One day of cooler and drier weather before a weekend of hot sultry weather to begin unofficial summer. Temperatures will be in the 70s today with lower humidity and less wind. Of course as said earlier, this is only a 1 day break. A Warm front moves back into the state later this evening and overnight which may bring some showers and thunderstorms back to the area. Some of these storms may become strong to severe with large hail being the main threat with any of the storms.

HOT HOT HOT: The Memorial Day weekend will start off with a few early showers and thunderstorms as the warm front sweeps northward across the state. Most of the precipitation should be out of the state by the afternoon and early evening leading to a VERY hot and humid day on Sunday. Temperatures Saturday will be in the 80s to near 90. Sunday many areas will approach or exceed 90 degrees. SE Iowa may reach the lower to middle 90s, heat indices will approach or exceed 100 in some areas. Some heat advisories could be required if heat indices are forecast to be higher. The heat comes to an end late Sunday into Monday with showers and thunderstorms along a cold front, some of the storms with this system could become severe as well. More details on this severe weather in future videos.

COOLING OFF PART 2: Tuesday begins the next phase of cooling off. Temperatures and humidity will take a nose dive. Highs will drop into the 70s possibly even upper 60s by the middle of next week. Lows will drop into the 40s and 50s once more, a good time to leave the windows open and turn the AC off after the hot days of the weekend. A slow warm up is forecast toward the following weekend.
