A RISKY DAY: There is a slight risk of severe weather for today and tonight for the northwestern part of the state. This is mainly west of a Hamburg to Lake Mills line. All modes of severe weather are possible including large hail, damaging winds and a few tornadoes. The tornado threat albeit is minimal, there could however be some. A cold front will move into the state later today, showers and thunderstorms are expected to fire along the front from Minnesota southwestward into eastern Nebraska and north Central Kansas. These storms will move into the state during the evening hours and likely will begin to dissipate once the sun goes down. Most of the severe weather threat will likely wind down around Midnight. Along with the severe weather threat, heavy rain is possible as well. 1-2″ could be possible in areas that receive more than one storm. There is also a slight risk of severe weather over far northeastern Iowa on Thursday, but most of the threat looks to remain over western Wisconsin.

MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND: It’s a gamble on what will happen this weekend for the big beginning to summertime. It will be quite hot with 80s and even 90s across the state with high dew points well into the 70s. The atmosphere will be very unstable and dependent on any lifting mechanism could spark a shower or storm which may become severe. We’ll have to wait and see if any factors such as CINH come into play with any possible activity particularly on Saturday.
