WXUPDATE: Severe Weather appearing likely Saturday Night

Saturday Severe Weather Outlook

This is an update to the last post we made, in which little has changed as for general forecast. However, this is now a Day 2 forecast which allows categories on how severe we will see this weather be. Currently, we have been placed in a Slight Risk area for most of Iowa and a moderate risk in far Southwestern Iowa. The threat is less in our area than Kansas and Oklahoma, where a rare HIGH risk has been posted.

As usual, this will depend on how cold or how unstable will get. This may cause it to prevent any thunderstorm convection or it could go the other way.
If this happens, here is the general forecast for Iowa. Storms are currently rolling through Oklahoma and Kansas, where Tornado Watches and Severe Thunderstorm Watches are in effect. These storms will not make there way up to our area at this time. Find some spotty showers, however.
Friday Night is a whole different story. In Southwest and South Central Iowa, storms are expected
to develop in the mid-evening with some firing up later in the night. The main threat with these storms will be large hail and possibly damaging winds.
The main day we’re looking at is Saturday. A warm front will lurk around the area near the West Central part of the state, possibly central part. Southern Iowa will see the worse of it, while the north will see less intensity. Overnight is when we will see the storms really fire up. If these conditions do what they are supposed to do, this will most likely be the first statewide Severe Weather outbreak of the season. We will definitely keep our eyes on this tomorrow.
We will be ready tomorrow night and into the weekend. Another threat comes Sunday, however it is too early to tell at this time if it will become severe. A live chat for Saturday night is ready to go if needed, and if conditions do what they are forecasted to do, we may need to launch it. We will have to see.

Stay tuned for the latest updates.
