HIGH RISK OF SEVERE WEATHER SATURDAY

The Storm Prediction Center has outlooked a HIGH Risk of Severe for western Iowa for Saturday and Saturday night. A Moderate risk surrounds that including Sioux City and close to Des Moines with a slight risk across the rest of the state.

A STRONG SLY LOW LEVEL JET WILL HELP FORCE MORNING RAIN AND STORMS OVER MUCH OF THE AREA…AND WILL ALSO ALLOW FOR DESTABILIZATION DURING THE DAY BEHIND THIS INITIAL ACTIVITY. WITH THE SURFACE LOW DEEPENING JUST TO THE W…AND A BROAD WARM FRONT AND/OR OUTFLOWS INPLACE…LOW LEVEL WINDS WILL REMAIN BACKED AND RH LEVELS SHOULD REMAIN RELATIVELY SHELTERED AS WELL…PROVIDING A FAVORABLE AREA FOR STRONG TORNADOES. CELLS WOULD LIKELY FORM OVER WRN SECTIONS OF THE HIGH RISK AREA WHERE HEATING WILL STEEPEN LOW LEVEL LAPSE RATES…THEN WOULD PROCEED RAPIDLY NEWD WITH AN INCREASING TORNADO THREAT. VERY LARGE HAIL WILL ALSO BE LIKELY. THE NRN EXTENT OF THE TORNADO THREAT WILL DEPEND ON THE ACTUAL LOCATION OF THE PRIMARY BOUNDARIES.

There is a HIGH RISK also in Kansas and Oklahoma as well. Tornadoes, some strong and long tracked will be possible along with very large hail and damging to destructive straight line winds. THIS IS A LIFE THREATENING SITUATION! You need to pay attention to the weather on Saturday for any warnings and watches that may be issued across the region. A weather radio in your home or a weather radio app for your smart phone is a must for those in the threat area. Be very weather aware!
