DRY DAYS: A few days of dry weather ahead as the pesky low pressure departs off to the east taking the clouds and showers along with it. Temperatures this weekend will be in the 60s and 70s with Sunday being the best of the two days with more abundant sunshine then with readings in the 70s statewide.

STORMY BEGINNING: The weather turns sour to start the work week on Monday with another storm system moving in bringing with it some showers and thunderstorms. Some of the severe weather parameters are elevated across the western counties of the state Monday night so some severe weather is possible in that area and Nebraska and South Dakota. It MAY come into the rest of the state Tuesday, but it’s too early to determine that. Temperatures will cool slightly behind this storm back into the 60s, which is still above average for this time of year.

THE END?: The GFS Model Run is showing a possible end to this warm streak and it could come around the 4th-5th of April. It may also be a BIG wake up call if this pans out. A storm system is forecast to move in from the west. Unlike previous storms, this one will tap in much colder air from well up in Canada. There may even be some wet SNOW as close as the Dakotas on the backside of this storm. Behind it, temperatures will drop back BELOW average, possibly 30s-40s for highs and lows below freezing. Remember the last frost in the state is typically around late April into the first week of May, so this possible cold snap isn’t unexpected. This is the first time we’ve seen this on the GFS so we’ll see if this trend continues.
