PRECIP THIS WEEK: Decent chances of precipitation throughout the week starting today with a system that will bring mainly rain to the state, however some of it over the northern and northwestern counties may be in the form of a wintry mix. This moves off Tuesday with another system on its heels on Wednesday into Thursday. This too may bring a chance of some rain with some possible wintry mix during the overnight hours of Wednesday night.
THAT PESKY HIGH!: The high dry air is doing a number on the storm set for Sunday into the following Monday. Again both the GFS and the CGEM models show the storm with a lack of any moisture across the state (Gulf of Mexico Closed) The CGEM has the storm a bit stronger and with more moisture across Iowa Sunday and again Monday night, but the High Pressure in Canada looks to nose in and cut off a lot of the moisture from falling across the state. As soon as the storm moves to the east it strengthens and dumps a whole lot of precipitation, (typical of this winter). We’ll continue to monitor but as of now this storm isn’t what it was over the last week to ten days. Snow Lovers should boo at High Pressure!
THE IDES OF MARCH: March rolls in not long after and more storms are seen on the model but after seeing the storm this coming weekend continue to fall apart on run after run, not too concerned with the storms at this time, waiting for more information.
BIG CHANGES: The Iowa Weather Blog has big changes coming up on March 1st. Stay tuned.
