BRIEF BREAK: Today will be a pause between systems with some partial clearing and highs in the 30s to near 50 across the state. Clouds roll back in later tonight into Wednesday with the next system however which will bring some rain and wintry mix, ending as snow Thursday before exiting. Amounts at this time look to be similar to Monday’s amounts with most of the snowfall confined to areas north of a Glenwood to Des Moines to Cedar Rapids to Clinton line. The heaviest totals will be across the northern counties where 2-3″ of snow is possible with the system Wednesday night into Thursday. Most of southeast Iowa will just see rain and a wintry mix.

ANOTHER ONE: Another system with possible light snow comes through on Monday, but as of snow the accumulations with this system look to be light with the lack of moisture and the heaviest snowfall looking to fall north and west of the state. Another system follows by the middle of next week but it’s too early to determine track at this time.

BIG ONE POSSIBLE: This run of the GFS shows what could be a monster system with possible heavy precipitation across the area around the 25th and 26th. If this pans out (there have been some systems in earlier runs around this time frame) this may end up as the strongest system of the season, but again this is 11-12 days out and is likely to change several more times in the coming days, just keep an eye out.
