HALF WEEKEND: Half of this weekend will be somewhat stormy, especially across the southern 2/3rds of the state. The other half will be dry and mostly sunny. First off today a Winter Storm Warning and Winter Weather Advisory remain in effect through Sunday morning, however most of the moisture will move out of the state later tonight. Snowfall amounts of 4-9″ will be possible from Des Moines to Omaha, with the heaviest amounts further to the west. Little if anything will fall north of US Hwy 20 and the eastern counties will see mainly rain with a bit of wintry mix and up to a dusting or half inch of snow by the end.
CALM WEEK: Next week will see seasonal readings in the 30s to lower 40s across the state with dry conditions. There is a chance of some flurries or sprinkles on Tuesday into Wednesday, but we’ll leave them out for now. No big storms will effect the state after this current one at least through the following weekend.
COLD SNAP?: The GFS is showing a large pool of cold air settling southward toward the US/Canadian border toward the middle to end of February. With the NAO still trending positive, this will likely be gone on the next run, but we’ll have to keep watch for any blasts from the north at least through March.
