SNOW!: There looks to be some accumulating snow with this system later today into Thursday morning especially across the far eastern and northeastern counties of the state. The NAM and GFS are showing totals of 2-4″ possible with this system across the Tri-State area and HPC is also saying there’s a moderate to high probability 60-80% of at least 2″ across the far eastern and northeastern counties. There is currently no winter weather advisories in effect as of this post, but there may be some issued for these areas later today. Likely storm totals will be about 1-2″ across the far northeastern and eastern counties with less than an inch west of a Osage to Cedar Rapids to Muscatine line.

COLD PUSH: Gone will be the temperatures in the 40s and 50s for highs. Coming will be snow, cold and wind chills around 0. That’s January weather and that’s going to be the case for the rest of the week. Of course dependent on any snow we get will drastically alter temperatures for the next few days downward. More will be known once this system is out of here on Thursday.

MORE SNOW!: As has been mentioned several times before on other discussions, it’s looking like the pattern has finally turned to being more wintry with several chances over the next two weeks for some rain and or snow. The storm track will be right over or near the state that will bring several storm systems in with chances of precip with each. It’s too early to determine any amounts this far out, but most of the systems are coming from the west or northwest. The bigger snow storms typically, not always come from the southwest.
