COMING STORM: Today will see some increasing cloudiness with the approaching storm coming in from the southwest. Rain will begin to overspread the state from the south by evening which may effect some of the High School Football games this evening. Rain will continue into Tuesday with temperatures remaining in the 40s throughout the day. By Tuesday night however, some of the rain may change over to some snow especially across the northwestern counties of the state. With the NAM showing a lot of snow with this system, the GFS not so much and HPC showing the heaviest snow in NW Iowa whereas GFS and NAM show it cutting across the state from SW to NE. It’s still too early to determine anything with regards to the possibility of snow as the precipitation ends Wednesday morning from west to east. Right now there is likely to be a band of at least 2-4″ of snow somewhere in the state (likely across the northwest) but it’s fluid at this time. Most of this snowfall will likely melt fairly quickly given the ground temperatures remaining above freezing and the amount of rain that will have fallen prior to the switchover to snow or a mix.

REST OF WEEK: After the storm departs at mid-week the rest of the week will be tranquil with highs in the 50s. There is likely to be some fog Thursday morning and again Friday morning given the amounts of precipitation that is expected across the state. Some of the fog may cause some travel issues on bridges and overpasses with temperatures likely hovering around the freezing mark both mornings. The next chance of precipitation, likely rain will come by Sunday with another system moving into the state.

Stay tuned to any changes as this next storm system will likely be the first snowstorm of the year across the state.
