MAINLY DRY AND COLD: The weather over the next week or so will remain mainly dry across the state, however there will be a few bumps in the road with regards to precipitation chances. Along with that, temperatures will remain below seasonal norms for the rest of this week. There is a slight chance of some rain over the far eastern counties of the state today with a storm system that will be effecting mainly the east coast and the Ohio Valley. Some clouds from that system will extend all the way to central Iowa as well. Clouds will linger again on Thursday over the eastern counties, while to the west skies will remain partly to mostly Sunny. There is likely to be a hard freeze over the next few nights across the state mainly where skies are able to clear. Friday morning will likely be the main night for freeze conditions especially in the eastern counties. Otherwise it will be this morning and Thursday morning elsewhere.

SECOND PLUNGE: Another plunge of cold air is expected early to middle of next week. This plunge is likely to be as strong if not stronger than this one that is currently coming through. We could see temperatures possibly falling well into the 20s for lows (if not some upper teens). We’ll have a better understanding of this later this week.
