UPPER LEVEL LOW: As long as the upper level feature is nearby, we’re going to continue to talk about it, because it’s going to continue to effect our weather. Clouds will be the main rule today mainly east of US Hwy 63, with highs struggling to get into the lower to middle 60s. To the west, sunshine, with a few clouds with temperatures around 70, maybe lower 70s. By Sunday however, the model wants to bring in a chance of rain across the eastern counties mainly east of the Ave of the Saints (IA Hwy 27), cloudiness will extend back to the Interstate 35 corridor if not further west. Monday may see shower chances all the way to Interstate 35. QPF is showing some hefty amounts of rain (over an inch in the Tri-State region near Dubuque), not sure if that’s how much some locales will get, but a quarter to half inch through Monday evening is possible with some heavier totals dependent on where the rain falls. The feature finally begins to lift out Tuesday with rain ending, clouds decreasing and temperatures finally warming back to seasonal averages.

INTO OCTOBER: The weather pattern for the first week of October doesn’t look much different from that of the last week of September. Dry, sunny and seasonal temperatures. The main storm track will be up to the north as a ridge of high pressure will look to take hold again. This will be helpful for farmers that need the dry weather for harvest, but not good for those that are worried about the moderate to severe drought taking place across a large section of central into southeastern Iowa.
