SLIGHT CHANCE: There is a slight chance (20% or less) of rain showers today with a storm system that will be swinging through the state. It will be cloudy however with highs in the 70s.

UPPER LEVEL LOW: An upper level low will make an appearance across the region Thursday and will continue to meander across the western Great Lakes through the weekend and into the early part of next week before it finally moves off to the east by next Tuesday. Until then some residual cloudiness with chances of a few sprinkles or light showers could be possible Thursday through Monday across the eastern half of the state.

COLD SNAP?: A significant cold snap is still shown on the model the first week of October. This run shows a very strong arctic cold front moving through the state around October 4/5th with the 540 line dropping into the state of Iowa. A 1044mb High will be situated across the Yukon in Canada. A sure sign of what could be an early arctic plunge (given the height values upstream in Canada) and what may end up being a killing freeze statewide by this point. Of course this is two weeks ahead so the situation remains fluid at this point. We’ll see if this continues.
