RAINY SUNDAY: It will be a rainy Sunday across the state with very good chances of showers and possibly an isolated thunderstorm across the state. Rainfall amounts will be substantial in some areas especially in the severe drought areas in SE Iowa where up to 3/4ths of an inch or more is possible (at least according to the QPF chart)
UPPER LEVEL WEEK:A break on Sunday with seasonal temps in the 70s is short lived with another quick moving storm system that moves in bringing another chance of showers across the state at that time. This will be followed by an upper level low that will meander across the region for the rest of the week. This will keep most of the state (except possibly the western quarter) under the clouds and temperatures will be held back as well with 60s likely through the following weekend when the system finally begins to move away.
COLD SNAP?: The model is showing (at least for the first time) a possible cold snap coming around the first weekend of October. A cold front according to the run will have moved through with a few showers along it. The 540 thickness line (a good presentation of the freeze line) will be diving in the western Great Lakes again. We have two weeks to watch to see if this continues to be seen. It is possible that this will go away on the next model run as does a lot of things outside the 7-8 day time window.
