The latest drought monitor shows that severe drought now exists across the southeastern counties of the state with moderate drought extending northwest into central Iowa. Currently 24.71% is in some kind of drought with 9.41% in severe drought or D2. This is the first time any part of Iowa has had severe drought since August 21st 2007 (2.41%). It is also the highest percentage of severe drought since August 1st 2006 (25.9%). A few showers and storms are possible late tomorrow and again on Saturday, thereafter it looks like we’ll be heading into another dry pattern for a while. Not what many people will want to hear.
