HERE COMES THE HEAT: Everyone received some rainfall yesterday from the disturbance that moved through. Amounts ranged greatly between a tenth or two and over 1.5 inches in some locations. Today begins a three day stretch of summertime weather and temperatures. Highs today will be in the mid to upper 80s across the state with 90s possible by Thursday into Friday. Dew points will also be up there as well with readings in the upper 60s to lower 70s. This will produce heat indices at or above 100° once more.

RELIEF FOR WEEKEND: A cold front is expected to move through the state late Friday into Saturday. This will bring an end to the heat but also bring another chance of showers and thunderstorms. This will effect some High School Football Games on Friday night. This may also effect tailgating for the Iowa Game at Kinnick Stadium in Iowa City Saturday morning. There is also a slight chance of seeing some late day showers Saturday afternoon that may effect tailgating for the Iowa State UNI game at Jack Trice Stadium in Ames. Cool conditions will move in for the rest of the Labor Day Weekend with highs falling back into the lower and middle 70s with nighttime readings in the lower and middle 50s. This will continue into the early part of next week as well.

FURTHER TO FALL: Although the start of Meteorological Fall begins tomorrow, as we head to the actual start of fall later in September, the pattern looks to remain dry across the area. A possible system will move through around the 10th that could bring some rain but it looks rather dry for the first few weeks of September.

FLOODING: An update on the Missouri River flooding will be forthcoming today. The Flood waters have receded away from I-29 and I-680 north of Council Bluffs. The damage is quite extensive, so much so that I-680 is likely going to have to be rebuilt and remain closed for a long time. The river is expected to fall below flood stage at Decatur NE this weekend. While the river will remain above flood stage at Blair, Omaha, Plattsmouth and Nebraska City through Labor Day Weekend and into mid-September.
