2011 Missouri River Flooding Update #7

Here is the latest on the flooding that has been ongoing all Spring and Summer along the Missouri River.

The Army Corps of Engineers has begun it’s lowering of output out of Gavins Point Dam west of Yankton SD. The release will be lowered by 5000 CFS each day until reaching 90k CFS by the 27th of August in which they will hold at that level for two weeks (Barring any heavy precipitation events)

With this seemingly good news here are the latest River levels.
At Sioux City, the stage was 33ft at 11pm, flood stage is 30 feet. The river is in minor/moderate flood stage. The river is forecast to hold steady through Friday and then begin slowly falling to 32 feet by Sunday.

At Decatur NE, the stage was 39ft at 11pm, flood stage is 35 feet. The river is in moderate flood stage. The river is forecast to remain steady through early Saturday and then begin a slow fall.

At Blair NE, the stage was 30.2ft at 11pm, flood stage is 26.5 feet. The river is in moderate flood stage. The river is forecast to remain steady around 30 feet through the weekend and a slow fall is projected by early next week.

At Omaha, the stage was 34ft at 11pm, flood stage is 29 feet. The river is in moderate flood stage. The river is forecast to remain steady at 34 feet through the weekend before a slow fall begins by early next week.

At Plattsmouth NE, the stage was 33.1ft at 10pm, the flood stage is at 26 feet. The river is in moderate flood stage. The river is forecast to remain steady through the weekend before a slow fall is projected by early to middle of next week.

At Nebraska City, NE, the stage was 22.5ft at 11pm, the flood stage is at 18 feet. The river is in minor flood stage. The river is forecast to remain around 22.5 feet through the weekend and into early next week before a slow fall begins by mid-week.

This could all change depending on precipitation and/or outflow changes at Gavins Point. At current estimates, the river should begin falling below flood stage as early as 2-3 weeks. Stay Tuned!!!!
