SEVERE SATURDAY: There is a slight risk of severe weather for today and tonight across the northwestern quarter of the state. The main risks look to be from large hail and damaging winds although an isolated tornado isn’t out of the question, the best chances of those look to be in Minnesota. A frontal system will be moving into the state setting off these storms during the afternoon and evening hours. Some of the rainfall could be heavy but flash flooding isn’t likely at this time.

COOLER FOR FAIR: It’s looking like the beginning of State Fair on Thursday could be rather cool with regards to what we’ve been seeing over the last several months. Temperatures will slowly be falling through the week with readings in the upper 70s to lower 80s by mid-week next week. Along with the cooler conditions, there will be chances of showers and thunderstorms as well, with best chances occurring Tuesday into early Wednesday and then again Friday into early Saturday of next week.

VOO-DOO: This model run shows a fast moving flow over the middle of the month with a system moving through at mid-week (17th) with a quick shot at showers and storms at that time with some cooler conditions following. By the last day of State Fair (21st), a ridge will be setting up once more over the southern part of the country including Iowa which may turn the rain spicket off and could bring back TRIPLE H once more. We’ll have to wait and see if this pans out.
