SEVERE THURSDAY: There is a slight risk of severe weather for today and tonight once more for most of the state. The main threats will be from large hail and damaging winds. Storms will fire by the late afternoon hours similar to yesterday’s activity, along a boundary that is still situated across the state. This boundary will slowly move through the state through the evening and overnight hours into Friday morning ending the chances of showers and storms by sunrise or a little after Friday.

BUILDING HEAT: Although it was hot in the southern and southwestern counties of the state again. Knoxville went over 100 again yesterday. The entire state did not share in the heat. By late this coming weekend and the first part of next week, the heat will try to make a return statewide, with temperatures pushing above 90° once more with heat indices at or above 100-105° Heat Advisories may be required at that time. A frontal system mid-week next week will cool readings back to seasonal averages (which will be the NEW 1981-2010 avgs by that point)

TROPICS: Tropical Storm Don formed yesterday afternoon just north of the Yucatan Peninsula. Winds early this morning were at 40mph and it was moving WNW around 12mph. Latest forecasts show it to be making landfall close to Corpus Christi TX sometime during the overnight hours Friday night Saturday morning.

RAGBRAI: There is a chance of thunderstorms early and especially later in the afternoon as riders head from Altoona to Grinnell. Temperatures will be warm in between the rain threats with readings in the low 90s.
