TRIPLE H HERE TO STAY: Here begins the long duration heat wave across the state and the region. An excessive heat warning is in effect for nearly all of the state outside the NWS LaCrosse Counties which may be upgraded later. Temperatures during this heat wave will be in the 90s. With Dewpoints in the 70s, heat indices will climb well over 100° and approach 110° in many locations. This will be a dangerous heat for those with health issues, without air conditioning, young children and the elderly. Along with the heat, chances of showers and thunderstorms will be almost non-existant over the next week. According to this model run, the next widespread chance of rain looks to come Saturday with a frontal system that will sweep through the state. This will also be the front that ends the heat wave. Hopefully this holds true in future runs.

RIVER FLOODING: Due to the heavy amount of rain across far northern Iowa yesterday afternoon and evening, several rivers are now under river flood warnings. This includes the Cedar River at Charles City, Cedar Falls and Waterloo, The Shell Rock River at Shell Rock along with other rivers across NW Iowa which had heavy rain the previous day.
