HEAT AND STORMS: Today will be one of, if not the hottest day of the year across the state. Many locations will see temperatures well into the 90s. Some locales may touch 100. With the heat and high humidities there is a chance of some severe weather. There is a slight risk of severe weather for today and tonight for areas northwest of a Chester to Glenwood line. The main threats will be from large hail and strong gusty winds. Heat advisories remain in effect today across the eastern 3/4ths of the state.

HOLIDAY WEEKEND: The rest of the holiday weekend will be hit and miss with regards to shower and thunderstorm chances. Most of the activity this weekend if it occurs will be during the overnight hours so firework displays (at least at this time) don’t look to have a problem. Temperatures will not be as hot as they are today, with readings likely in the 80s to near 90 and heat indices below 100°.

FLOODING: River flooding continues along the Missouri River. More levee breaches similiar to the one at Percival yesterday morning are possible for the next several weeks, mainly for areas south of Omaha Council Bluffs.
