The next few days will be hot across the state. Temperatures will soar into the 90s and possibly even 100 across the western counties, with dewpoints in the 60s to around 70, this will lead to heat indices between 100-110 through Friday during the afternoon hours. A heat advisory is in effect for Thursday across the areas in Iowa west of US Hwy 63. This is where temperatures tomorrow will be in the 91-97° range with heat indices 102-110°, further to the east, temperatures will be slightly cooler and heat indices will be in the upper 90s to around 100° A heat advisory remains in effect for Friday in the same areas, but an Excessive Heat Watch has been issued for the eastern counties sans the 4 counties in NE Iowa (Allamakee, Clayton, Fayette and Winneshiek). This may likely get changed to a heat advisory or even an Excessive heat warning depending on what the actual temperatures do and what the dewpoints are. In any case, Friday will see readings across the state in the 92-98° with some isolated century marks. Heat indices will be well above 100° and possibly surpassing 110° in some areas. This can be VERY dangerous if you don’t take the typical precautions for beating the heat. Make sure to check on those who may not have a way to stay cool during this heat wave. The weekend will see slightly cooler readings and slightly lower humidities along with isolated chances at some precipitation.
