SEVERE WEATHER RETURNING: The Storm Prediction Center has outlooked a slight risk of severe weather for today and tonight across the southwestern half of the state. The main window for thunderstorms will hold off until late afternoon into the evening, with large hail and damaging winds being the main threats. As the storm system moves to the east, the severe weather threat moves with it. On Monday, the slight risk shifts slightly to include almost the entire state. A more enhanced risk area includes central into southeastern sections of the state. Same threats today with the thunderstorms should hold on Monday as well.
FLOODING THREAT: The latest QPF chart doesn’t show promise with the possibility of more heavy rain across the southern sections of the state. Given that the model does tend to over precipitate during the summer months, a more likely amount over the next 5 days will be around 1-2 inches, with isolated amounts approaching 3″. With ground already near saturated across the southern counties, some flash flooding is possible if thunderstorms move over the area. Area rivers also remain high in the area, and could easily go above flood stage once more.
TRIPLE H’S: Hazy, hot and humid weather will make a comeback, but it looks like it will hold off for possibly two weeks when a 594mb ridge looks to set up across the center part of the country. It is still out in voo-doo at this time, but we’ll keep looking to see if it continues on future runs.
