DRYING OUT: Showers and thunderstorms will rule most of the day today, but the sun should be out at least across the western half of the state by the end of the day. There is a slight risk of severe weather across the far SE, but this should be limited to the morning hours. The main severe weather threat will remain mainly to the east and south of the state. Saturday will be pleasant with highs in the 70s to near 80, with low humidity and mostly sunny skies.
FLOODING: Outside of the flooding of the Missouri River, the rainfall that came with this system that is departing has left numerous rivers and streams at or near flood stage. Several creeks and rivers near Des Moines are under Flood Warnings through at least Saturday because of the heavy rain. Many Flash Flood Warnings were issued last night across central Iowa with amounts over 2 inches in many locations.
MID JUNE HEAT: Next week the heat but more importantly the humidity will return across the state. With that several chances of showers and thunderstorms will also accompany the humidity as well next week. Widespread severe weather is not expected with anything next week at this time.
