WET AND COOL: Cooler weather has arrived, but chances of showers and thunderstorms haven’t completely left the picture or the state for that matter. The Storm Prediction Center has outlooked a slight risk of severe weather for today and tonight for the southern half of the state, mainly south of an Onawa to Clinton line. The main threats will be from large hail and damaging winds, however some tornadoes are possible especially over the southwestern counties of the state (see video for more on that) Heavy rain is likely across the state over the next few day which could lead to some flash flooding especially in areas that continuously recieve thunderstorms each day. Some minor river flooding is also possible but will be nothing compared to the flooding ongoing in western Iowa along the Missouri River.
HEAT RETURNS: The heat and humidity (although not as strong as the last few days) will make a return to the state early next week. Prior to arrival another storm system Sunday and Monday will bring more chances of showers and thunderstorms. Along with the warmer weather, it will become active again with several rounds of showers and storms next week. Thus, Saturday and most of Sunday will be the quietest days weatherwise in the next 7-10.
