Levee Breach near Hamburg

The earlier Flash Flood Warning across Fremont County which was for the levee weakening has now led Fremont County Officials to evacuate about half the population of Hamburg (Pop 1141) in far southwestern Iowa. Sandbags were delivered to the break just over the border in far NW Missouri, because it was too dangerous for people on the ground. Any water that flows out of a much larger breach is likely to sweep northeastward into the town given the flatness of the ground and the nearby Nishnabotna River. More on this in the AP article below.
