Missouri River Flooding Update #1

Here is the latest on the flooding that will be taking place on the Missouri River over the next few weeks.

The Missouri River at South Sioux City NE was at 27.9ft at 1am this morning. Flood Stage is 30 feet. Its forecast to go above flood stage Sunday afternoon and crest between 35-37 ft sometime mid-month. The record stage is 44.28 ft on 04/14/1952. Some significant flooding is possible in Sioux City and surrounding areas. Dakota Dunes in South Dakota will be completely flooded and possibly could be for 2 months!

The Missouri River at Decatur NE was at 33.1ft at 1am this morning. Flood stage is 35 feet. Its forecast to go above flood stage Sunday evening, but a forecast crest isn’t available as yet. Record stage is over 43 feet at this location.

The Missouri River near Blair NE was at 27.7ft at 1am this morning. Flood Stage is 26.5ft. It is forecast to continue rising. The Record stage here is 27.53ft on December 17th, 1969, so a record crest is VERY likely here.

The Missouri River at Omaha was at 29.1ft at 1am this morning. Flood Stage is 29 feet. It is forecast to continue rising slowly. The Record stage is 40.20 ft on 04/18/1952.

The Missouri River at Plattsmouth was at 30.4ft at 1am this morning. Flood Stage is 26 feet. It is forecast to remain steady for the next couple of days with possible rises thereafter. The record stage is 35.65 ft on 07/25/1993

The Missouri River at Nebraska City was at 22.9ft at 1am this morning. Flood Stage is 18 feet. It is forecast to remain around 23 feet for a few days with possible rises thereafter. The record stage is 27.66 ft on 04/18/1952.

  1. If the flood stage is 35 Feet, his does the flood stage relate to the elevation in South Sioux City?
