SEVERE SUNDAY?: The Storm Prediction Center has a slight risk of severe weather for today and tonight across the northern tier and eastern third of the state. All modes of severe weather will be possible with large hail and damaging winds being the main threats with a possible mesoscale convective system (MCS). Most of the day should be quiet with a capping layer in place. The thunderstorm event should hold out until the late afternoon into the evening, however some morning activity is possible across the western into central counties.

SEVERE MONDAY?: The Storm Prediction Center also has a slight risk of severe weather outlooked across the western portions of the state for Monday. There is an enhanced area across NW Iowa with the better chances of severe weather will take place. The storms will be weakening as they move to the east, which is why Tuesday should see no severe weather threat across the eastern counties due to the strengthening ridge across the SE part of the country.

HEAT WAVE: The front that will move through Monday into Tuesday will stall to the south and retreat northward as a warm front Thursday sparking off a shower or thunderstorm at that time. THis will be the beginning of a potential heat wave that will last through the weekend into the following week. Temperatures above 90 with heat indices at or over 100 are possible during this time.
