Parkersburg and New Hartford had held the mantra of having the last EF5 tornado in the United States. Unfortunately, that distinction has now been placed on a tornado in Monroe County Mississippi near Smithville, where the NWS in Memphis has indicated EF5 damage from a tornado on April 27th. Since 1950 there has been 57 F5/EF5 tornadoes. Iowa, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas and Alabama have 6 each. This year has seen 5 EF5’s.
