…STORM SURVEY RESULTS FOR TORNADOES IN IOWA COUNTY ON SUNDAY MAY 22, 2011…

TORNADO NUMBER 1…

A NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE STORM DAMAGE SURVEY TEAM HAS DETERMINED
THAT A TORNADO OCCURRED ON SUNDAY MAY 22 AND PRODUCED A DAMAGE PATH ACROSS
PORTIONS OF IOWA COUNTY IN EAST CENTRAL IOWA.

A TRACK OF EF2 DAMAGE EXTENDED FROM 3 MILES NORTHWEST OF LADORA
TO 6 MILES NORTHWEST OF MARENGO. THIS PATH IS ROUGHLY 6 MILES LONG
AND 75 YARDS WIDE. THIS DAMAGE OCCURRED ROUGHLY BETWEEN 230 PM AND
245 PM SUNDAY AFTERNOON. MARENGO IS LOCATED ABOUT 30 MILES
NORTHWEST OF IOWA CITY…OR 25 MILES SOUTHWEST OF CEDAR RAPIDS.

THE EF2 DAMAGE INDICATED WIND SPEEDS WERE APPROXIMATELY 120 MPH.

TORNADO NUMBER 2…

A NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE STORM DAMAGE SURVEY TEAM HAS DETERMINED A
SECOND TORNADO OCCURRED ON SUNDAY MAY 22 IN PORTIONS OF IOWA COUNTY.

A TRACK OF EF0 DAMAGE BEGAN 4 MILES EAST OF MILLERSBURG AT 254 PM
AND ENDED 4 MILES WEST OF PARNELL AT 3 PM. PATH LENGTH 2.5 MILES AND
PATH WIDTH 25 YARDS. POWER LINES WERE BLOWN DOWN WITH TREE DAMAGE
NOTED AND ONE SHED FLIPPED.

THE EF0 DAMAGE INDICATED WIND SPEEDS WERE ESTIMATED AT 80 MPH.
