Rain, Cool Temps and Planting?

As growers patiently count the days to planting, Mother Nature continues providing early spring like conditions with consistent rains and cool outdoor and soil temperatures. As only 3 percent of the corn in the State of Iowa has been planted, it will be a few more restless wet days before weather and soil conditions improve. Soil temperatures across the State are climbing back to near 45 degrees F. and 50 degrees plus will be optimal for planting to best ensure the most even plant stands. Growers’ time these days may be best spent considering new or upgrading existing agricultural technologies, treating soybean seeds, shopping for foliars, fungicide or insecticide input purchases, and developing strategies to enhance plant health and soil fertility. Yield remains King!
